Water is found everywhere there is life. At the same time, it behaves in ways that almost no other substances do.
In this episode, we explore the strange properties of water – its anomalies. For example, that ice floats on water, that its density changes in unusual ways, and that hydrogen bonds, charge, and structure make water something completely different from an ordinary liquid.
If an alien came to Earth and studied water, they would probably think it was one of the planet's most peculiar substances – and at the same time, the one on which all life depends.
We go through several of these anomalies and also ask the question: how can something so central to life still be so little explored?
